Below you will find some helpful suggestions that we have found will help you use the new No-Float Stix in a safe way with less effort and to it's maximum potential. The Advantage of the Pendulum Motion
The number one thing for the new user of the No-Float Stix needs to remember is that it is not like any other wading staff you may have used before. Where other wading staffs need to be pushed through the water, the No-Float Stix does the work for you. Example: When the No-Float Stix is lifted it automatically moves forward with a pendulum action, needing very little effort from the fisherman. This works even when moving upstream against the current. When it is firmly in place take two steps forward and repeat as needed.
The Grip
The next important thing is not to grip it with a death grip. A loose secure or slightly firm comfortable grip is all that is needed the majority of the time. When the need presents itself a very firm grasp may be applied for that moment. The same theory is applied when holding the steering wheel of a car.
Thumb Placement
During testing, some fisherman have said they like to have their thumb on top of the handle as it aides the pendulum motion. Then when a situation presented itself the thumb was lowered to the side for a firmer and more secure grip.
Our Children
As important as it is for any adult to use a wading staff, it is each person's obligation to our children that they teach the importance of "Safety" on the stream or area with current of any kind. The sooner a child becomes aware of the importance of Stream Safety, the more secure we can be of their future. It is like using a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) required on boats, any parent would ensure their child had one before they did. The same holds true when wading. So many useless deaths each year happen because people did not think they needed a wading staff. Our goal is to give parents that opportunity to start that young child early. That is why we offer a "Youth" No-Float Stix. Our way of trying to bring families together in the river.
